PEST SERVICES
Professional Gopher Control in Castle Rock
Fresh mounds in the lawn every morning. A sprinkler line that suddenly stopped working. A young tree that turned brown for no reason. Pocket gophers cause real damage on Castle Rock area properties, and the home remedies do not work on them.
OMNIS Pest Control has been clearing pocket gophers off Front Range properties for over 13 years. We identify which species you have, map the active tunnel system, and run targeted trapping until the property is clear. Trapping is the only proven method, and we do it right.

MODERATE-HIGH
Gophers Cause Expensive Damage to Your Property
Pocket gophers are not disease vectors, but the property damage they produce is severe and compounds fast. They sever irrigation lines, kill trees by stripping bark off roots, undermine sidewalks and patios with their tunnels, and turn an irrigated lawn into a minefield in a matter of weeks.
THE LOCAL CONTEXT
Why Castle Rock Has a Pocket Gopher Problem
Castle Rock sits in a transition zone where the eastern plains meet the mountain foothills. That puts our area in range of two distinct species: the Northern pocket gopher (Thomomys talpoides) in compacted, gravelly soil typical of the foothills, and the Plains pocket gopher (Geomys bursarius) in the looser, sandier soils on the eastern side of town. Either species is possible on any given property. Some yards get both.
What makes the local conditions worse: every irrigated lawn in Castle Rock is prime gopher real estate. Loose, soft, well-watered soil is exactly what they want. Year-round irrigation keeps the ground workable through summer and into fall, well past when drier non-irrigated land would have pushed them off. Once a gopher establishes a territory in your yard, the damage compounds quickly.
Effective control is not a home remedy. Flooding, moth balls, gum, ultrasonic devices, vibrating stakes, and peppermint oil have all been tested and none work. Trapping is the only method with strong evidence behind it, and trap placement at the right point in the tunnel system is what separates a successful treatment from a frustrating one.
THE OMNIS DIFFERENCE
Why Local Homeowners Choose OMNIS for Gopher Control
Gopher control is a specialty. Most general pest control providers either skip it entirely or treat it as an afterthought. We have refined our approach over more than a decade of work on Castle Rock area properties.

Local Since 2012
Over 13 years working Castle Rock, Parker, and Douglas County. We know which species shows up in which neighborhood and what the soil tells us before we set the first trap.

Trapping-Based
Trapping is the only proven method. We do not waste your time on home remedies, flooding, baits, or gimmick devices that the research shows do not work.

Tunnel System Mapping
Effective control starts with finding the main tunnel runs, not the feeder branches. Mound-by-mound trapping wastes effort. We work the system the gopher actually uses.

Ongoing Monitoring
Pocket gophers are solitary, and territories that get cleared attract new dispersers from neighboring properties. We can keep watching for new activity after the initial clearing.
HOW WE WORK
Our 4-Step Gopher Control Process
Every property is different. The framework is the same: assess, locate, trap, monitor. The specifics on your property come from a free on-site assessment.
1
Property Assessment
FREE ON-SITE
Walk the property with you. Identify active mounds versus inactive ones, look at soil type and conditions to determine likely species, and note any specific concerns (pets, kids, ornamentals, irrigation systems).
2
Tunnel System Mapping
MAIN RUNS
Probe to find the main tunnel runs, which are typically deeper and longer than the surface feeders. Effective trap placement requires knowing which tunnels the gopher actually travels in daily.
3
Targeted Trapping
PROVEN METHOD
Professional traps placed in the main runs where the gopher is active. We check and reset as needed. Trap-based control is the approach with the strongest evidence base and the lowest non-target risk.
4
Monitoring
PREVENT RETURN
After the initial clearing, we can stay engaged to catch new dispersers from neighboring territory before they establish. This is often the difference between treating once and treating every season.
PRICING
How Pricing Works
Pricing depends on property size, gopher activity level, soil conditions, and whether you want one-time clearing or ongoing monitoring. Quoted free after an on-site assessment.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Gopher Control Questions We Get All the Time
The same questions come up. Straight answers from 13 years of working pocket gophers in the Castle Rock area.
Do home remedies for gophers actually work?
No. Flooding, mothballs, gum, juicy fruit, vibrating stakes, peppermint oil, and ultrasonic devices have all been studied. None of them work reliably. Some make the problem worse by pushing the gopher to dig new tunnels away from the treatment. Trapping is the only method with strong evidence supporting it.
Is the trapping process safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Modern pocket gopher traps are placed inside the tunnel system, several inches underground, with the entry hole filled in and marked. Pets and kids do not encounter them at the surface. We talk through trap placement with you on the assessment and flag any areas you want avoided.
How long does it take to clear an active gopher?
It depends on how many gophers are on the property and how cooperative the soil and tunnel system are. Single-gopher territories can sometimes be cleared in a single trap-check cycle. Properties with multiple animals or complex tunnel networks take longer. We discuss realistic expectations during the assessment.
Why do gophers keep coming back after I trap one?
Pocket gophers are solitary, so when you remove one the territory opens up. A young dispersing gopher from a neighboring property will find it eventually, sometimes within weeks, sometimes within a season. This is why monitoring after the initial clearing matters more than people think. Catching a new arrival fast prevents a full reinfestation.
What about gopher poisons and baits?
We generally avoid them. The non-target risk is real (pets digging up bait, raptors eating poisoned gophers, kids in the yard), and gophers are notoriously cautious about new food sources inside their tunnel systems. Trapping has better evidence, lower risk, and gives you a confirmed kill rather than a hope.
Will my neighbor's gophers come over to my property?
Yes. Pocket gophers disperse, especially in spring as young animals leave their natal territory. If your neighbor has an active gopher problem and you do not, you are next on the list. We work with our ongoing clients on perimeter monitoring during dispersal season.
